Hi foreign kuvasz lovers! I'm Mangaman (Attila), I'm Daruma's (Éva) boyfriend, a mangalica breeder and hopefully a future kuvasz breeder. (If you have any questions about pigs I can help you with it - even if this is a forum for Kuvasz) I am also happy to help with any kind of topic about the breed Kuvasz if you need any help. As I read the previous comments, I found Susa's including a question about the meeting in Agárd. I can promise that we (Éva and I) will make an extraction of the event translated in english to share the informations as soon as the report be ready. It will take time that to be finished, so we have to wait to start the work. Till then we ask you to be patient. Hi Éva, well, the Organisation " Specie Rare " in Switzerland does support and protect old rare breeds of all Farmanimals that are in danger of dying out. They try to keep the breeds and revive them. Yes, it is a Hobby to breed Mangalica Pigs, however, they use the porkmeat anyway. Susa & Maros

Hi Melissa, I think, it is a "Mangalica Pig", an ancient Hungarian breed. Nowadays a very rare breed, that has been in danger of dying out. In Switzerland it does belong to the " Specie rare " and ist protected. They say, that the english Word for "bacon" was to derive from "Bakony" where the best bacon of those pigs has been coming from. Susa & Maros

Hi! In Hungary the movement of the dogs are similar like the USA. The difference is in the judging. In Hungary the judges make detailed written analysis of the dogs but in the USA the judges make only the order of the dogs. 1st, 2nd, etc. Ági has made a lot of videos of dogs shows in Hungary. Are there any videos/movies available of Kuvasz being shown in Hungary? I am especially interested in seeing the dogs move. In the USA dogs are shown to the judge gaiting (trotting) from the side as well as coming straight at the judge and moving away from the judge in a straight line. I have another picture question. And just like the other one, I want to know the name of the Kuvasz. It's in the book "Hungarian Dog Breeds" by Pal Sarkany and Imre Ocsag, printed in Hungary in 1987. The picture is #66 and described "Kuvasz bitch, ideal coat and set of tail". In this English edition the picture is opposite page 113. I do not know where it would be in the Hungarian edition. Anyway this bitch is very elegant, and I have always wondered who she was and from which kennel she came.
