Below are the results for the 2nd day of all breed dog shows being held in Long Beach, California. The hosting club on Thursday was the Los Encinos Kennel club, and there were a total of 2,215 dogs entered. There were 15 Kuvasz entered and 14 showed. Of them 10 were champions, and 1 new championship title was earned. The Kuvasz breed judge was Dr. Klaus Anselm. Dr. Anselm was also the judge of the Working Group. Working Group 4--Ch. Glacier Creek's Whispering Wind Best of Breed--Ch. Glacier Creek's Whispering Wind Best of Opposite Sex--Ch. Casablanca's Capt. Louis Renault Best of Winners and Winners Bitch-- Elso's Sooperdooper Stellalooper**** New Champion! Winners Dog--Casablanca's Scandinavian Birch It was fantastic to see a Kuvasz be awarded a Group 4 at such a prestigious show as many of the top show dogs in the country are competing. I'm not sure which FCI Group the Kuvasz belongs to and which other breeds it competes with for higher honors than Best of Breed. But in the USA in the Working Group are: Akitas, Alaskan Malamutes, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Black Russian Terriers, Boxers, Bullmastiffs, Doberman Pinschers, German Pinschers, Giant Schnauzers, Great Danes, Great Pyrenees, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Komondorok, Mastiffs, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Newfoundlands, Portuguese Water Dogs, Rottweilers, Saint Bernards, Samoyeds, Siberian Huskies, Standard Schnauzers, and Tibetan Mastiffs. Here are the results for the 1st day of the dog shows in Long Beach, California. The judge was R. William Taylor from Canada. Best of Breed--Ch. Glacier Creek's Whispering Wind (call name Brenda) Best of Opposite Sex--Casablanca's Scandinavian Birch (Birk) Best of Winners and Winners Bitch--Elso's Sooperdooper Stellalooper (Stella) There were 13 Kuvasz entered, and 12 showed. Tomorrow there are 15 Kuvasz entered. Interestingly, there is a bitch imported from Hungary entered on Friday. Her sire is Gacsaj-Pesta Rongyos. Melissa and Magda [email protected]

I am very sorry to announce the death last night of my beautiful Ximanya. I've had her since she was 9 weeks old, and I miss her terribly. There is nothing I have ever wanted to do less than take her to the veterinarian last night for the final time. Never again will I see that happy, smiling face and beautiful black eyes. Hi Jozsef, That's a picture from the 2003 National Kuvasz Specialty show held at Purina Farms in Gray Summit, Missouri. The man holding the ribbon prize is the judge Roger Hartinger. The class was for best brood bitch and was won by Mauna Kea's Heart's Affire, "Markie". The lady in black (I don't know her name) appears to be holding Markie. The other 2 Kuvasz in the picture are Markie's offspring. The one in the middle looks as if it is being held by the owner of Mauna Kea Kuvasz, Sue Thomas, and the one on the end I think is Mauna Kea's Last Tango (a male), held by Maria Arechaederra. I have some more PRA test results to announce. All testing done by Optigen. Previously I mentioned that my Magda (Glacier Creek's Matanuska Magda) was tested clear/normal for PRA. Now Magda's sire and one of her sisters have been tested. G'Kar (Glacier Creek's Texas Tornado), Magda's sire, is PRA clear/normal. He also has OFA excellent hips. Katrina (Glacier Creek's Catch the Spirit), Magda's sister, is PRA clear/normal. Katrina also has OFA excellent hips. In addition, World Champion Furrondie's Rain N Shine (call nam Mokany) is PRA clear/normal. He has OFA fair hips. Mokany and Katrina had a litter of puppies about 5 months ago. All puppies are PRA clear/normal. Their breeder has retained 2 puppies, and bitch and a dog, and they will be starting their show careers soon. I don't know their registered names yet, but their call names are Bambi and Thumper. We are having the Eukanuba National Championships in Long Beach, CA and some all breed shows at the end of November and early December. There are over 15 Kuvasz entered. Bambi and Thumper are coming too. I might steal Bambi........ I will post a report about the show if anyone is interested. Melissa and Magda [email protected]
