Are there any videos/movies available of Kuvasz being shown in Hungary? I am especially interested in seeing the dogs move. In the USA dogs are shown to the judge gaiting (trotting) from the side as well as coming straight at the judge and moving away from the judge in a straight line. Is all this done in Hungary in dog shows?

I have another picture question. And just like the other one, I want to know the name of the Kuvasz.
It's in the book "Hungarian Dog Breeds" by Pal Sarkany and Imre Ocsag, printed in Hungary in 1987. The picture is #66 and described "Kuvasz bitch, ideal coat and set of tail". In this English edition the picture is opposite page 113. I do not know where it would be in the Hungarian edition. Anyway this bitch is very elegant, and I have always wondered who she was and from which kennel she came.

My biggest news is that Ximanya celebrated her 12th birthday on November 4. Of course she got presents--delicious snacks being one of her favorite things! And we played one of her favorite games. This I call Kuvasz Crack the Whip. It is played at night. After doing evening chores of feeding my old horses we get to play. Ximanya is very well behaved during chores, but immediately after the fun begins. She is on leash. She grabs the leash in her teeth (how she can see it in the complete darkness is a mystery to me!) and starts growling fiercely while yanking the leash. This causes me to go flying in whatever direction she pulls the leash. Of course I start to laugh and this makes Ximanya do it even more. We had an especially good game on her birthday. Since this has been happening just about every day for years, Ximanya's leash has many holes in it .
I'm also very appreciative that Ximanya has wonderful hips. She is very sound at age 12 and can run around quite fast still. That really points out to me how important it is to select for breeding stock animals that are free of hip dysplasia. Good hips can make a big difference in the quality of life for older dogs, and I'm very happy that those who bred Ximanya's lines paid sufficient attention to this.

Thanks about the books. However, they are not for me. I already have 2! What I need to find out is the name and phone number in Hungary of the person who sells them. So that when someone visits Hungary they can telephone the person who sells "A Kuvasz" and buy it.

Thanks! foglalkozás means job??? I don't remember what my dictionary said exactly (hobby or interests ) but it wasn't "job". Hmm, and neme means sex? That dictionary said it meant "genera". I've entered something now, hope I got it right. If one of the choices had been "szuka" I would have been okay picking that. But female is "no" in Hungarian? That's pretty funny because of the English meaning of the word. Yes, we women say NO all the time!!!

Is the book "A Kuvasz" edited by Jozsef Hodosi and published in 1996 still available? I happen to have 2 copies myself! However, not everyone has one. Someone I know has a friend who travels to Hungary about twice per year, and the last few times he has gone, he has tried to reach Mr. Geza Hetenyi unsuccessfully. The book used to be available from Mr. Hetenyi.

What exactly is happening at the Hotel Gardony on November 18 and 19? It seems to be some kind of educational program or meeting for lovers of Kuvasz???? Unfortunately, that online Hungarian dictionary I've been using is giving me some very strange answers. It wants to translate "Kuvasz" as "pooch". And that is very, very funny.
If this is an educational event, will it possibly be videotaped? It would be wonderful to be able to watch it on the Internet! Or even photographs would be good. Is there a printed program of some kind? Obviously I am curious.

Thank you again Bmudi! Tessie is the wrong word? No wonder I had so much trouble registering for this forum. The online dictionary I found, you should look at it:

Go from Hungarian to English, and ask it to translate Tessie. It told me Tessie meant please. Who knows what other wrong things it has told me.
