Mario Verslype:
"A short description of "my history" in the dog sport. Anyone who knows me personally will recognize my character in this introduction. I am, as most of you know, rather a man of deeds than of words. That is why this story requires few words to describe my "dog-handling" experience.
At the age of seventeen I took up the dog sport. More specifically, I started with the discipline "ring" A few years later I moved onto IPO.
My first dog in this programme was a German Shepherd Dog, Maiko Van Borgersteinhof. With this dog I took part in various CAC's and had the pleasure of competing three times in the world championships for all breeds (FCI). My best result being ninth place.
In 1993 I made acquaintance with Johan Weckhuyzen and through him I took on a Belgian Shepherd Dog ‘Malinois’ to work with in the IPO. My first "Belgian", Stoned van de Duvetorre was selected seven times to take part in the world championships FCI or FMBB. When Stoned was six years old I began to train with his son Yagus. With him I trained in a totally different manner than I ever had done with my previous dogs. I immersed myself in the "Clicker-training" with the result that I was able to take part in no less than nine world championships for the FCI or FMBB. Of these with Yagus I won the world title three times.
Together with Mister Denis Steurs I began to concentrate on dog behaviour and psychology. Meanwhile we have been training for six years with Yagus van de Duvetorre. Denis has for many years been making a study of wolves; analysing their teamwork, tracking abilities and obedience all of which are applied in the wild and used with success in dog handling. I hope in the future to acquire new ideas and training methods which can benefit and advance dog sport. I regularly give seminars relating to the IPO programme. These are however on request. "
